Homeopathy for the Aussie Christmas
The sounds of cicadas fills the air, the washing is dry within an hour of hanging it out, it’s too hot to go outside unless you are going to be in the water somewhere, and Santa is throwing lollies off the back of a Rural Fire Brigade truck - it must be Christmas in Australia.
While you wrap the last of the presents and stock the fridge ready for family Christmas lunch, I thought I’d share a few helpful remedies that can support your body through this special time of year.
1. Christmas overindulgence
Whether it’s the extra plate of Christmas lunch, the second helping of dessert, or the few-too many glasses of bubbly on New Years Eve, we all promise we won’t do it this year, but just in case we do, keep the Nux Vomica close by as it’s traditionally used for overindulgence from food and alcohol, and is particularly helpful for symptomatic relief of headaches and digestive discomfort like nausea and bloating.
2. Travel Sickness
If you’re travelling this Christmas and have someone worried about motion sickness, Cocculus Indicus is traditionally used for symptomatic relief of dizziness, nausea, and fatigue due to motion sickness, and Tabacum is used for nausea accompanied by cold sweats.
3. Sunburn and Skin Irritations
If you were caught off-guard by the hot Aussie sun, consider these three homeopathic medicines, traditionally used for burns and skin irritations. Cantharis is used for relief from painful burns that are red, blistered, and hot to the touch, Urtica Urens is used for the burning, stinging, & itchy stage and Calendula is traditionally used to support healing of many skin ailments, and can be used during recovery after sun exposure, especially if the skin is peeling or irritated.
4. Stress and Holiday Chaos
While Christmas should be a time of celebration, it can also get a little stressful in the lead up with last-minute shopping, preparations, travel, and preparing for family gatherings. Kali Phos is a tissue salt traditionally used for mild nervous tension, irritability, and headaches that might arise from these things. If you’re feeling rushed and under a little more stress than usual in the Christmas lead up, add this wonderfully supportive tissue salt to your water bottle and sip regularly throughout the day.
5. Supporting Immune Health
If you feel like your immune system may need a boost in the lead up to the Christmas festivities, don’t forget about Anas Barbariae (also known as Oscillococcinum) traditionally used to support the immune system and for symptomatic relief in the early stages of colds and flus.
So there you have a few helpful homeopathic medicines to support you through the festive season. We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and pray blessings over you and your family as we celebrate during this special time of year.
